About Boyan Pottery

Boyan Moskov was born in Ruse, Bulgaria in 1973 and at the age of 13 was encouraged by a school teacher to follow his dream of becoming an artist. He attended the Troyan Art School in Troyan, Bulgaria, one of Bulgaria's pre-eminent art schools. Boyan completed the five year program and developed his passion and technique in painting, sculpture, drawing and ceramics.
After completing his mandatory service in the Bulgarian Army, he returned to Troyan to work for a company that made ceramics and exported them to Belgium. He also continued to work for various private artists, and in 1997 he opened his first studio.
In 1998 Boyan applied to the National Art Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria to major in ceramics and was accepted as the top student for that year. After two years at the Academy, he returned to his own creative endeavors.
In 2000 Boyan moved to Sweden to explore a new style of ceramics. He first worked for a large pottery fabrication company while studying at a local art school. He not only focused on ceramics but continued to develop his skills in painting and sculpture. Soon he opened his own studio and operated a successful business working with local artisans. After three exhibitions featuring his own paintings and sculptures along with those of other local artisans, he then exhibited his work in a solo show.
In 2003 he returned to Bulgaria and started his own business creating and selling pottery. He sold his craft to galleries all over the country. His work is a mixture of traditional Bulgarian designs and colors combined with a modern flair.
Boyan met his wife, Anna Hopf, when she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria. They moved to America in September 2007 and he is continuing to follow his passion of making pottery. He also teaches pottery classes at the Kimball-Jenkins Center in Concord, New Hampshire.
